If smart is the world of the new millennium, Milan is ready to be its guide.
Starting from the new district that is emerging northwest of the city, in the access area south of Arexpo, a smart district developed by EuroMilano and designed by the Scandurra and Zanetti Design architecture firms to create a residential area extending over 330 thousand square meters.
Called UpTown, the project includes the building of 4500 apartments that will host up to 10 thousand residents, the creation of a 2500 square meter park on which more than 3500 trees will grow, sports and leisure facilities, a number of children’s play areas, 10 km of pedestrian paths in the green space and 10 km of bike paths connected to the city centre and the BikeMi service.
The project also includes the building of a shopping centre with an indoor recreation area and a school centre that will host children from preschool to secondary school with the potential to hold up to 920 students.
Why is this district defined as smart? First of all, because it is the first Italian district that has completely zero impact on the environment since all buildings belong to class A+, heating is ensured by the largest residential geothermal network ever built in Italy and by remote heating, and also include photovoltaic systems and LED lighting.
The supply of domotics, thanks to which it will be possible to operate lighting, shutters and blinds, heating, cooling, loads, music, video surveillance and anti-intrusion, all from a single device, using the video door phone as a home operating facility with the ability to interact remotely via your smartphone is of fundamental importance.
Furthermore, an innovative private and public access management system will allow you to enter your home or co-working space, gym, children's area and laundry room with two simple keys, one of which is electronic and increases security through selective and regulated access control so that you pay only for the services used.
Also worth mentioning is the added value of the complete renovation of Cascina Merlata, which has become a hub of public services offering a doctor’s centre, bicycle workshop, drop-off for e-commerce, a room where bands can practice, restaurant, ice cream shop and delicatessen, farmer’s market, welfare services and conference room.
Therefore, UpTown aims at promoting the birth of a new and large community of people by creating multifunctional and open source areas available to students, entrepreneurs, and residents.
