In Crans-Montana, in the Swiss Alps, a building, identical to a pair of others built in the 1960s by Italian families, houses several apartments with the typical design for mountain residences of that era.
Offstage was commissioned to renovate one unit with the goal of preserving the original spirit of the residence: the application of naval-inspired design to the mountain environment.
In order to create a comfortable, functional and guest-ready dwelling, the reorganization of the floor plan created a continuous circular flow between the different areas of the apartment, with a window embedded in the dividing wall between the large living areaand the distribution corridor, which serves as an additional connection element anddiaphragm, opening up new perspectives.
Wood is confirmed as the absolute protagonist. For ceilings, walls and custom-made furniture, the choice fell on hand-planed oak planks, a particularly expressive material; on the floor, chestnut, an essence of the same family as oak, with cooler tones.
The conversation lounge area is defined by a comfortable sofa designed by Offstage and made by its own craftsmen. Finally, some elements lacquered in gray – the kitchen and the paneling containing the service block – creates a counterpoint between the finishes, making the use of the spaces an even more dynamic experience.
