The integrated design company Progetto CMR will design for the State Property Agency of Genoa the final and executive plan for the redevelopment of the Nino Bixio Barracks, located in the west part of the city, in collaboration with Politecna Europa, which dealt with the systems, structures and LEED certifications.
The work includes the design of new offices for more than 5,500 square meters, which will host the Polizia Amministrativa e Sociale (Administrative police), the Immigration and the Gabinetto Regionale per la Polizia Scientifica (Regional Forensic Police Cabinet) for the Liguria region, through the development of a complex made up of two interacting buildings designed to make the execution of everyday activities easier by minimising the interferences among the workspaces.
The masterplan shows that every activity will have its own specific space: at the main entrance of the barracks there are the administrative offices, while the immigration office and the rooms dedicated to the Forensic police will be located after the already existing building that hosts the canteen. A courtyard designed to offer common spaces for the employees will stand between the buildings.
Particular attention was paid to the accessibility of the site to ensure workspaces that can meet contemporary needs, organised flows with distinct entry and exit points and comfortable external areas where people can take a break, also thanks to the shrub species and the approximately 20 native trees planted to provide a pleasant temperature.
Finally, the developed project proposal for Nino Bixio Barracks deals with the compliance of the whole work with the criteria of the CAM and NZEB standards, as well as the application for the LEED® GOLD certification of the building hosting the immigration office and the rooms dedicated to the Forensic police.
