The new Symbiosis Business District by Antonio Citterio and Patricia Viel in Milan

-

The evolution of Milan (Italy) has been recently marked by extensive urban transformations in the southern area of the city, such as Fondazione Prada and Bocconi University’s new campus.

Today the architects Antonio Citterio and Patricia Viel add the Symbiosis Business District, a masterplan that includes the completion of a 21,500 sqm office headquarters occupied by major Italian telecommunications company Fastweb: the aim is to revitalize a former industrial area of the city.

The office complex is designed to create a unique identity and relationship within the context of the business park and the surrounding cityscape: the building is characterized by the large glazed façades, which intend to connect the office spaces with outdoor meeting areas, and the glazed element is also emphasized in the pools of water which reflect the glass surface.

Alongside Carlo Masera’s landscape design for the public square dedicated to the visionary industrialist Adriano Olivetti, the architects reimagine a fragment of Milan so as to connect work and leisure: the public space is designed to create an inviting, inclusive and green environment and the forthcoming development of the next stages of the masterplan are planned to re-establish this area of Milan’s future.
