The renovation of a rural residence in Valchiavenna

-

In the heart of Valchiavenna (Italy) the architecture studio ESarch renovated a pre-existing rural residence built between the 1920s and the 1930s; the aim was to reinvent the geometry of the facades thanks to subtle additions.

The building, originally consisting of two bodies, is now a coherent volume, where the irregular layout of the existing building has been transformed by a thick layer of rustic plaster and the geometry of the fir wood grafts.

The grafts on the facades of the building correspond to the openings, such as the monumental entrance door and the terrace: in particular, the entrance door highlights the point where the two bodies of the house come together.

The residence develops on three levels and is accessed through a stair that brings to the first floor, containing a living room, a dining room, a kitchen and a bathroom; the upper floor hosts the night area: two bedrooms that face a wide terrace, overlooking the front garden; the ground floor is an independent studio apartment.

Finally, the interiors are bright, with wood and grey finishes that recall the materials of the exteriors to achieve a general sense of harmony and uniformity.
