Calvino, designed by Davide Groppi in 2018, is a lamp that combines technical functionality and material nobility with a profoundly narrative dimension. Rigorous and evocative, it embodies the magic of a poetic gesture capable of illuminating, interpreting, and reinventing space. It stands as a sign of style that transcends time due to the sculptural strength of its perfect proportions. The elegance of the object arises from the balance between lightness and matter, between light and form.
On the occasion of Euroluce in 2025, Calvino is being presented in a new look, introducing a balance in which matter and light complement each other. The new restyling, featuring a marble base, enhances the lamp’s preciousness and refinement. This material transformation makes Calvino a “small domestic monument,” capable of communicating with any space with discreet grandeur. The base is available in travertine, which offers natural luminosity, and the intense and sophisticated Verde Alpi marble.
The mirror, which is the heart of the lamp’s identity, functions as a dynamic instrument. This disk, featuring a mirror finish, is adjustable in all directions. When oriented in space, it multiplies points of view, reflects, and creates ever-changing atmospheres. It is defined as being not simply a source of light, but a reflection and a narrative. The rear of the disc is finished in matt blue.
This design establishes a philosophical contrast: marble speaks of monumentality and roots, while the mirror speaks of modernity and abstraction. Light, acting as the orchestrator of this encounter, restores unity and meaning to the piece. The core principle holds that where marble defines, light sculpts. Where mirrors dissolve, light amplifies.
