The new Terme de Montel in Milan, born from the design vision of Voltaire Design, a studio founded by architect Jacopo Acciaro, found in the excellence of Linea Light Group the ideal partner for lighting, in collaboration with Voltaire Design. Here, light is a ‘hidden protagonist’ that guides pathways, enhances architecture, and amplifies the sense of well-being in a profound and enveloping multi-sensorial experience.
The lighting project, which is organic and designed for complex environments subject to vapors, humidity and moving water, covered all spaces, both external and internal, aiming to create a harmonious dialogue between light and architecture.
For the exteriors, the objective was to enhance the historic building (also following the Superintendency’s instructions) and visually define the experiential areas, such as pools and walkways. Projectors like ARCADA and SKIN (bi-emission wall version) were used to emphasize architectural elevations. The skillful use of uplights and downlights such as ORMA, PERISKOP projectors, and flexible RUBBER linear luminaires allowed the space to be modeled with depth and visual rhythm. The XENIA linear system was chosen for the striking waterfall in the main entrance. Bollards such as BUZZER, offering glare-free visual comfort, BOND PRO, with elegant circular cut-off light, and PISTILLO, small and essential, were used to guide pathways and green areas. The decorative BLUM bollard and the flexible D-WAVE linear system with semicircular installation, along with the ALCOR collection, further delineate paths and enrich the luminous landscape around the characteristic round pool in the inner garden.
In the interior, a delicate balance between technical and decorative light was sought. Integrated solutions, discrete uplights, and architectural downlights—often in pairs—were employed to guide paths and give depth to rooms. Standing out are the QUANTUM and WARP downlights in the sustainable and customizable EVO configuration, which allowed for the choice of customized optics, filters, and finishes. The TARA lamp was used in more intimate rooms, while PASEO linear luminaires and flexible linear luminaires like RUBBER, RUBBER OPTICS, and RIBBON were chosen for lounges and relaxation areas, often concealed in architectural grooves. The chosen light color for the entire project is a warm light at 2700 Kelvin, with high color rendering, ideal for emphasizing materials and creating a soft, cozy, and relaxing atmosphere, perfectly consistent with the spa’s sensory experience.
A central aspect is the intelligent management of light: all architectural sources are dimmable and programmed in scenarios. This ensures visual comfort, adaptability, and quality of the experience, with each space calibrated according to the time of day and its function, ensuring an ambience that is always relaxing and never excessive.
At the Terme de Montel, light is not only function but atmosphere, balance, and an integral part of the wellness experience.
