Stone vases, Venini meets Jil Sander

-

Stone is the collection of hand-blown and handmade vases born from the collaboration between Venini – historical excellence of artistic glassmaking in Murano – and the luxury brand Jil Sander, signed by the Formafantasma design studio.

The project stems from a shared vision to explore new expressions of matter. Underlying this is a poetic and organic principle: the beauty of the imperfect. Silvia Damiani, President of Venini, explains:

Glass is a living, unpredictable material that only responds to those who know how to listen to it. It is thanks to the sensitivity and experience of our master glassmakers that we are able to transform uncertainty into art. The collaboration with Jil Sander and Formafantasma stems from a common vision: to believe in the strength of craftsmanship as a contemporary language, and in experimentation as a cultural act.

The Stone project comes to life from research into mouldless blowing techniques, to enhance the character of the hand-blown glass for which Venini is world-famous. The vases are finished ‘a craquelé’, an ancient technique but revisited with experimental methods involving cold water, bubbles and thermal shocks, creating unexpected tactile effects. Each vase tells a story of research, each surface is a trace of the process.

The collection consists of four main shapes – Stone 01, Stone 02, Stone 03 and Stone 04 – each made in a Limited Edition of 9. Each vase is different: in its proportions, in its symmetry, in the tension of the glass. The differences are not mistakes, but artistic intentions.
