Muse, the luminous sculptures by Fabio Novembre for Venini inspired by Metaphysical Art

-

Do you know The Disquieting Muses by Giorgio De Chirico? It is one of the most famous Italian artworks. But now it is also the source of inspiration for the new collection Muse, designed by the architect and designer Fabio Novembre for Venini.

With this collection of luminous sculptures, Novembre pays tribute to the Italian avant-gardes of Metaphysical Art, thanks to the close collaboration with the master craftsmen of Venini’s furnaces, based in the Venetian island of Murano.

The objects are made of opaline glass of three color variants: grass green, milk white and red, signaling their Italian origins; the collection is available in a limited edition of nine pieces per color and the opaline glass is combined with a base of white Carrara marble, another reference to the Metaphysical works.

In addition, the Italian designer’s pieces take the shape of a tailor’s mannequin (a typical symbol of Metaphysical Art), totally devoid of emotions: the enigmatic and silent figure appears trapped within a cage-like metallic structure, which at the same time serves as the mold that defines its figure.

Carlo Longagnani, CEO of Venini, explains:

After the success of Happy Pills and Murana, which became Venini best-sellers, we are proud to partner once again with the unconventional and creative spirit of Fabio Novembre. Venini has always promoted innovative projects that extend and enhance the ancient art of glassmaking through their design. Great artists (to mention just a few – Gio Ponti, Mimmo Rotella, Gae Aulenti, Gaetano Pesce, Tadao Ando, Ron Arad and, of course, Fabio Novembre) have discovered in the furnace experience optimum conditions to test new creative frontiers.”
