Artistic gymnastics and athletics: the new sports centre in Brescia

-

The construction of the new sports centre in Brescia, designed by Progetto CMR, has just started, also thanks to the NRRP funds: it will include a new centre for the Olympic training of female artistic gymnasts and a track and field arena, located in the San Polino district and destined to turn Brescia into the Italian capital of these disciplines.

The gym of the Artistic gymnastics centre (which aims at obtaining the FGI – Italian Gymnastics Federation – recognition) will host the training sessions of the local artistic gymnastics club as well as the retreats of the national and international teams, while the arena will be the second biggest indoor facility in Italy, after the one in Ancona.

Progetto CMR, an integrated design company belonging to the Gruppo Progetto CMR International, was entrusted with the project focusing on the facilities and the mechanical equipment.

THE ARTISTIC GYMNASTICS CENTRE

The over 1,200-square metre gym will be a ‘training sports facility’ where all the preparatory, educational and/or maintenance activities concerning the sport disciplines regulated by FSN and DSA will take place, in line with the CONI regulation. The facility is a prefab and has an integrated photovoltaic system on the roof. The gym is directly linked to the guest quarters through glass doors leading to the locker rooms area (4 rooms for 80 athletes and 2 for instructors) and the infirmary. There will also be a second gym of 117 square metres for warm-up activities, with an access to the main gym and directly linked to the locker rooms and the infirmary.

INDOOR TRACK AND FIELD FACILITY

The 7,400-square metre sports arena will be able to host disciplines such as track and field, climbing and martial arts and there will also be an external car park.

The galleries will host more than 1,100 spectators for national sports events. In the centre of the facility there will be an oval track and field track with a surface of 4,200 square metres, divided into six running lanes for the 200 metres and provided with a high performance rubber flooring. There will also be a double straight track with springboards and landing pits with sand for long jump and triple jump, a central straight track for speed events and a straight track for pole vault. The new facility, linked to the existing building, will have four locker rooms for 80 athletes, infirmary and first aid rooms, as well as additional spaces.

The energy demand of the building, which was awarded the NZEB class, will be met by means of plants powered by renewable sources, such as photovoltaic systems on the roof and district heating. Suitable thermal insulation systems and high performance systems will be used in Brescia, while the mechanical ventilation will limit heat loss, noise, energy consumption and the intake of external pollutants.
