The New Rugby Centre – FIR in Cernusco sul Naviglio

-

The construction site for the New Rugby Centre in Cernusco sul Naviglio was opened at the beginning of May. The facility, wanted by the Italian Rugby Federation, will receive the funds allocated by the NRRP to each Italian Federation.

The project has been proposed by the architect Giuseppe De Martino, Technical Director of Sportium, a company dealing with the design of sports facilities and part of the Group Progetto CMR, and it aims at fabricating a building annexed to a regulation-size rugby pitch for official competitions and a second pitch for training.

The New Rugby Centre will be highly functional; athletes and patrons will for example have distinct accesses and paths thanks to an internal layout aiming at ensuring the well-being and safety of all the people. It will cover a total surface of approximately 1,300 square metres.

On the ground floor there will be the locker rooms and the gym, while the first floor will house a true Clubhouse with a food court, a multi-purpose room and a 400-square metre panoramic terrace where people can watch the competitions on the 96×70 metre regulation-size pitch and enjoy the surrounding landscape.

The large windows overlooking the pitch are thus the distinctive element of the project, enriched by the strong horizontality of the whole architectural body that helps its inclusion and harmonisation in the natural context.

Finally, as far as energy and environment are concerned, the aim is fabricating a NZEB (Nearly Zero Energy Building) building, that is a highly efficient structure from the energy point of view whose overall functioning will require the consumption of a minimum quantity of energy. The principles of sustainable and bioclimatic design will be applied, working mainly on the creation of an envelope with good thermal performance, powered by renewable energy and provided with technologically advanced systems.
