Salone del Mobile.Milano is back: the 60th edition between sustainability and beauty

-

The challenge that will characterize the 60th edition of the Salone del Mobile di Milano will be the ecological transition of the furniture system, which will finally return to the Fiera Milano Rho from 7 to 12 June 2022, after two very complicated years.

Maria Porro, President of the Salone del Mobile.Milano, explains:

The Salone del Mobile has always been a catalyst for creativity, positivity and energy. We have always been a place of dialogue and construction, in Milan and at the Shanghai and Moscow editions. Now, we are as shocked as everyone else by the war in Ukraine and believe even more in the importance of being a crossroads of cultures and styles open to the world. This is why we have made sure that the work of the exhibiting exhibitors takes centre stage again. The event acts as a ‘blank canvas’ for all its protagonists – companies, brands and designers – allowing them to project their own identities, promote their own content and tell their own stories. A point of reference for the entire design community.”

This year, the Salone del Mobile.Milano has launched a series of guidelines to help exhibitors and those who design and build stands to follow basic sustainability criteria, starting with the use of recyclable materials and low environmental impact systems.

Environmental and social wellbeing will also be the theme of Design with Nature, the installation designed by architect Mario Cucinella in pavilion 15: 1,400 sq.m. that will narrate a virtuous ecosystem that would ideally represent the future of living.

The Salone Internazionale del Mobile, the International Furnishing Accessories Exhibition and Workplace3.0 will be bringing together a total of more than 2,000 exhibitors, including over 600 young designers under 35, the stars of the SaloneSatellite, whose theme will be: “Designing For Our Future Selves / Progettare Per I Nostri Domani“. June will also see the biennial editions of EuroCucina, its side event FTK (Technology For the Kitchen) and the International Bathroom Exhibition.

It will return, after its debut in 2019, S.Project, the exhibition dedicated to design products and solutions for the world of the project, which will highlight the most significant lines of research in terms of surfaces and solutions that allow the transition from the design of the single piece to the environment.

To enrich the debate, there will also be an interesting program of Talks, curated by Chiara Alessi, Maria Cristina Didero and Beatrice Leanza, while to support the new generations, the Salone del Mobile has decided to pay tribute to one of its main protagonists, Manlio Armellini, with a scholarship for the year 2022-2023 in collaboration with the Politecnico di Milano.

Once again, then, art and culture go hand in hand with design: on the one hand, the collaboration with the Fondazione Teatro alla Scala returns, which will open the Salone with a concert by the Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by maestro Lorenzo Viotti and a ballet by Roberto Bolle; on the other, it is Emiliano Ponzi, Italian illustrator who is today most appreciated and awarded at an international level, who created the image of the communication campaign for this 60th edition.

Thanks to the support of Federlegno Arredo Eventi with ICE Agency, the government agency that supports the economic and commercial development of our companies abroad and works to attract foreign investment in Italy, the Salone del Mobile promises to be full of surprises and events not to be missed, as in its best tradition.
