Casa Baglioni, the art and design boutique hotel by Spagnulo & Partners

-

Casa Baglioni is the new boutique hotel in Milan of the group Baglioni Hotels & Resorts located in the heart of the Brera district and designed by Spagnulo & Partners, an architecture and interior design firm specialized in the development of premium hotels.

Located in a Liberty-style building from 1913, Casa Baglioni offers an intimate and warm hospitality experience, thanks to refined settings that take their cue from the artistic and cultural energy of Milan in the 1960s, a historical period marked by movements, innovations, artists, architects and designer who made the interaction of art forms into their main territory of research.

The refined combination of colors, materials and textures are like those of an elegant home in the Brera zone: for example, the lobby lounge, the 30 spacious and luminous guestrooms and suites on six levels, the dining room and the wine room of the restaurant helmed by award-winning chef Claudio Sadler are beautifully furnished with custom creations, all designed by Spagnulo & Partners.

The influence of the 1960s spreads through the entire design, from the rounded forms of the beds and desks to the choice of typical materials from that era, like walnut combined with brass and marble, the fabrics of the upholstered furnishings with geometric patterns, the paneling and wallcoverings, and the floors in Italian herringbone parquet in the rooms, and in terrazzo for the restaurant.

The reference to the art and design of the years of the avant-gardes can be seen in every detail: the carpets suggest works of art by Enrico Castellani and Agostino Bonalumi, while the diamond pattern ceilings of the guestrooms and the floors of the restaurant are based on the geometric effects and colors of the 1960sutilized by Giò Ponti. The lamps in the rooms and bathrooms reference sculptures by Fausto Melotti, while the large chandelier by Panzieri at the entrance is a composition developed by the architects as a reminder of the neon structure by Lucio Fontana on view at Museo del ‘900 in Piazza Duomo.

In collaboration with the Stefano Cecchi Trust Collection – Fondo per l’Arte, selected works enhance all the various spaces of the hotel: the creations of great Italian and international artists, including Enrico Castellani (Superficie bianca, 2003), Agostino Bonalumi (Bianco, 1973 and Bianco, 1974), Carla Accardi (Assedio Rosso, 1955), Hans Hartung (T1963-U2, 1963 and T1963-K28, 1963), Christo (Running Fence, 1974) meet objects from the “Cromie Domestiche” collection of the designer Gala Rotelli: items in colored and transparent glass are juxtaposed with artisanal metals and ceramics decorated by hand, in an ode to simple, linear archetypal forms, in relation to intense primary and secondary hues.

The result is a boutique hotel as precious as a treasure chest full of riches, all to be discovered during your next stay in Milan.
