The rebirth of the Antonini Tower in Marco Piva’s project

At the end of summer 2021, the fire of the Antonini Tower, an 18-storey skyscraper in Milan, ended up on the front pages of all newspapers: luckily, there were no victims, but 82 families lost their house.

After 18 months, the architectural project – designed by Studio Marco Piva for the redevelopment of the tower has finally been presented. Its aim is rebuilding partly the architecture of the pre-existing tower by re-elaborating the memory of the previous building to give birth to a new structure.

The concept proposes a series of arcades that surround the entire building and establish a dialogue with the surrounding territory, defining the liveable and spectacular outer spaces: the final effect evokes several light and elegant ribbons, which envelop the complex and create a smooth and sinuous aesthetic.

Moreover, the wide outer space allows increasing the private outdoor surface areas, even thanks to the creation of sliding brise soleil on every façade to protect from the sun without sacrificing domestic intimacy.

The osmotic relationship between the Antonini Tower and the context is still a cornerstone of the project: the constant evolution of a city like Milan leads to rethink residential places from an indoor-outdoor perspective, promoting the fusion of spaces, shapes and materials.

The aim is starting the works during spring 2023.
