Roof Garden Costiera, a terrace on the Amalfi Coast

-

A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Amalfi Coast is world-renowned for its natural beauty. It is precisely on these enchanting hills of Salerno that Roof Garden Costiera was created, a refined outdoor space designed by BE.ON DVYSION who has brought new life to a portion of terracing, for years farmed and left in a barren state, close to the raw concrete retaining wall, with no element to soften its appearance.

Each and every detail of this terrace, from the furnishings to the colours, is a tribute to the Mediterranean. The clean, modern lines harmoniously blend with the vegetation chosen for the green design and the blue sea, creating a sense of balance and tranquillity. Colours naturally play a central role in defining the space, in which the nuances of fabrics and surfaces recall the warm tones of the earth, in a colour palette that evokes the very essence of the Amalfi Coast, without ever overpowering its natural beauty.

Each design choice, from the furniture to the decorative elements, has been aimed at quality and durability, without compromising aesthetics. The result is an environment that is an invitation to relax, offering the possibility of immersing oneself in the beauty of the surrounding landscape, without neglecting the practical needs of those who experience it on a daily basis. Roof Garden Costiera is indeed not just a design project, but rather a true sensorial experience. Each element has been carefully designed to gracefully dialogue with the natural landscape, creating a smooth continuity between the built environment and its surroundings.

Shaded by Gibus‘ bioclimatic pergola with adjustable blades, which houses the dining area and the sculptural monolithic kitchen by Cesar, the central lounge area combines with more intimate corners for relaxation, such as the grassy inlay with the sinuous Nolita lounge chairs by Pedrali and the Outside shower by FIMA Carlo Frattini, a minimalist element that dialogues with the graphic patterns of the corten partitions that screen the area from prying eyes.

An inside and an outside bound together by the choice of ceramic cladding surfaces, applied both to the floor and walls, lining the access staircase, the seats/flower boxes and the retaining wall on which they stand. For this Mediterranean corner, the architects chose Sublime by Ceramiche Refin, a porcelain stoneware collection inspired by the scents and colours of Burgundy, the area of origin of a particular stone of calcareous origin, now almost impossible to find, whose colours recall those of the area. Chosen here in the Ivory shade, its surface is characterised by haloes and small details that are spread over a compact and uniform background, furrowed by visible but not intrusive veins, enhanced through slight contrasts and colour transitions. The 120×120 cm format, in a structured finish, has also been given a 2 cm ‘beak’ processing in the corners, a customised operation carried out directly by Ceramiche Refin, who supported the designers in turning their vision into reality.

Also contributing to the appeal of Roof Garden Costiera is the lighting design, which plays a key role in defining the atmosphere. The light, carefully studied in every detail by Antonio Pontoriero, lighting designer and partner of the BE.ON DVYSION studio, follows the transition between day and night, transforming the space with delicate intensity. The lighting units, carefully positioned around the perimeter of the terrace and among the vegetation, create plays of shadows and reflections that amplify the perception of the space and of the surrounding landscape.

A perfect fusion of architecture and nature, Roof Garden Costiera is an oasis overlooking one of the most striking panoramas in the Mediterranean, designed to offer an immersive experience that awakens the senses of those who experience it.
